Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and SlashTab. They govern your access to and use of the SlashTab iOS app, slashtab.app, and related features (together, the “Services”).

By creating an account, using the Services, or continuing to use them after we post updated Terms, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

These Terms are available at slashtab.app/terms and from Settings in the SlashTab app.

SlashTab is a bill-splitting and calculation tool. We help you and your friends organize receipts, split items, and figure out who owes what — including tax, tip, fees, and shares — to the best of our ability.

SlashTab is not a bank, money transmitter, payment processor, or escrow service. We do not move money, hold funds, issue refunds, guarantee payments, or complete financial transactions. Any payment happens outside SlashTab, directly between users through Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, cash, or another method you choose.

Marking a balance as paid in SlashTab is a record-keeping feature only. It does not transfer money or legally settle a debt.

SlashTab is not affiliated with Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App. Those names and services belong to their respective owners.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. If you are under 18, you should use SlashTab only with a parent or guardian's permission.

You agree to:

• Provide accurate account information and keep it up to date
• Keep your password secure and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access
• Use only one account per person unless we authorize otherwise
• Be responsible for activity that occurs under your account

You may delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or create risk for other users or SlashTab.

You are solely responsible for how you use SlashTab. In particular, you agree that you will:

• Verify every bill. Receipt scanning (OCR) and automatic math can be wrong. You must review merchants, line items, prices, tax, tip, fees, splits, and totals before saving or sharing a bill or asking someone to pay.
• Confirm payments yourself. Amounts shown in SlashTab are calculations, not proof of payment. Confirm with the other person and your own records that money actually changed hands.
• Share links carefully. Anyone with a bill link may view that bill on the web. Only share links with people you trust.
• Guests and contacts. If you add someone from your contacts who does not have SlashTab, you choose what to share with them. Only add people you trust and confirm their share is correct before sending it.
• Use payment details appropriately. Payment handles you save are shown to friends so they can pay you outside the app. Only add information you are comfortable sharing.
• Voice and search features. Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight answers are based on your saved SlashTab data and can be wrong. Confirm important balances in the app before acting on them.

You may not use the Services to:

• Break any law or infringe anyone's rights
• Harass, threaten, impersonate, or defraud others
• Upload malware, scrape the Services without permission, or interfere with their operation
• Collect other users' information for spam or unrelated marketing
• Misrepresent who paid, who owes what, or the contents of a receipt
• Use SlashTab for commercial bill-processing at scale without our written consent

We may investigate misuse and cooperate with law enforcement when required.

You control the bills you create and the information you add. When you split a bill with others, they can see the details needed to participate. When you share a link, you choose who may view that content.

You grant SlashTab a limited license to host, display, sync, and process your content solely to operate the Services — including showing bills to participants and rendering shared links on slashtab.app.

Disputes between you and other users — including who owes what, whether someone paid, whether OCR got a receipt right, or what Siri or Spotlight told you — are between you and those users. SlashTab is not a party to those disputes.

SlashTab relies on third-party hosting, email, and technology providers. When you tap Venmo, Cash App, a bank app, or another external service, their terms and privacy policies apply.

We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their actions, outages, fees, or policies.

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLASHTAB DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

• The Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
• OCR results, splits, or balances will be accurate or complete
• Any payment will be made, received, or recorded correctly outside the app
• Shared links will remain private if you send them to others

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLASHTAB AND ITS OPERATORS, AFFILIATES, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) US $100 OR (B) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICES IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM (IF ANY).

These limits apply whether a claim is based on contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other theory, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability for certain damages, so some limits may not apply to you.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SlashTab and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Services, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your dispute with another user — except to the extent caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence.

Contact us first. Before starting a formal dispute, you agree to contact us at legal@slashtab.app or through our Help & feedback page and try to resolve the issue informally for at least 30 days.

Individual claims only. You and SlashTab each agree to bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative proceeding.

Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where federal law applies.

Where disputes are heard. Except for qualifying small-claims matters or claims seeking injunctive relief for intellectual property misuse, any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

No jury trial. To the extent allowed by law, you and SlashTab waive any right to a jury trial for disputes covered by this section.

We may update these Terms as SlashTab grows or as laws change. When we do, we will post the updated Terms on this page and revise the effective date above. If a change is material, we may also notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.

• Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and SlashTab regarding the Services.
• Severability. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
• No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
• Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
