Privacy Policy
Overview
SlashTab helps friends split bills and settle up. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. It applies to the SlashTab app and slashtab.app.
SlashTab is a calculation tool — not a payment processor. We do not move money or complete transactions. For how the app works and your responsibilities when using it, see our Terms of Service.

Information we collect
We collect information you provide and information needed to run the service:
- Account & profile — email, password, name, handle, phone, birthday, photo, and payment handles you choose to add (Venmo, Cash App, Zelle)
- Bills — merchants, items, amounts, tax, tip, fees, who paid, splits, who is marked paid, and people on the bill (including guests)
- Guests on bills — if you add someone who does not have a SlashTab account, we store the name and contact details you choose (such as phone or email) on that bill so you can share it with them
- Receipt photos — if you scan a receipt, we process the image to extract bill details. We keep the bill data you save, not the photo itself
- Social activity — friends, friend requests, invites, and reminders you send
- In-app feedback — bug reports and feature requests you send from the Feedback tab, including your message and optional screenshots
- Website — basic technical data like IP address and browser type when you visit slashtab.app
- Support emails — if you email us, we receive your email address and message contents
- Device — with your permission: camera and photos for receipts and avatars, contacts when you pick a guest for a bill, notifications, Siri and Shortcuts, and optional Face ID / Touch ID (stored on your device only)
With your permission, Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight can use your SlashTab bill data to answer questions on your device. On supported iOS versions, bill summaries may be indexed locally for Spotlight search.
We do not collect your full contacts list, bank logins, card numbers, precise location, or use cross-app advertising trackers. When you add a guest from contacts, only the person you select is used for that bill.
How we use information
We use your information to:
- Run your account and sync your bills and friends
- Calculate splits and show balances
- Let friends find you and pay you back using the details you saved
- Send account emails, bill reminders, and notifications you allow
- Review feedback and support messages you send us
- Keep SlashTab secure and working reliably
We do not sell your information, run third-party ads in the app, or share data for cross-site advertising.
Who can see your information
- Friends see your profile and payment handles so they can split bills and pay you back
- People on a bill see that bill's details — merchant, items, amounts, and who paid. Guests you add can receive a share link even if they do not have an account
- Anyone with a bill link can view that bill on the web, even without an account. Only share links with people you trust
- Anyone with your profile link can see your name, handle, and photo — not your phone, birthday, payment details, or bills
- Non-friends can find you in search by name or handle, but not your payment details until you become friends
Who we share with
We share information with service providers that help us host the app, send email, process receipt scans, and deliver notifications. They may only use it to work on our behalf.
We may also share information when required by law, to protect safety and security, if SlashTab is acquired, or when you choose to open another app (like Venmo or your bank) to pay someone. SlashTab is not affiliated with Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App.
How long we keep it
- While your account is active — so the app can function
- After you delete your account — we remove your profile and account data. Bills you were on may keep your name so others' records stay intact
- Support emails — as long as needed to respond and keep basic records
- In-app feedback — as long as needed to review your message and improve SlashTab
- Longer when the law requires it
Security
We use encryption and industry-standard safeguards through our providers. No system is perfectly secure — use a strong password and be careful with shared bill links.
If a security incident affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
Your choices
- Update your profile and payment details in Settings
- Send feedback from the Feedback tab in the app
- Control notifications and Siri access in iOS Settings
- Delete your account in Settings
- Request access, correction, or deletion at privacy@slashtab.app
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know what we collect, access or delete your data, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
California residents: we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may request access to or deletion of your information.
EEA / UK residents: we process data based on contract (to provide the service), legitimate interests (security and reliability), consent (optional features), or legal obligation. You may contact your local data protection authority.
Other notes
Cookies: slashtab.app uses only essential technical cookies and logs needed to run the site. No advertising cookies.
Children: SlashTab is not for children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child provided us information.
Outside the U.S.: your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
Changes: we will post updates on this page with a new effective date. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.
